In a year that’s sparkling and fizzing with all the excitement of the America’s Cup 2024, we asked contemporary artist JJ Walker to trade in his painter's canvas for our own organic canvas Viscata espadrilles to reflect this great moment in the city’s history and to celebrate all that’s best about Mediterranean culture. The result: Mediterranean Dreams, our first Limited Edition artist collaboration celebrating the freedom and Mediterranean spirit of the world’s greatest sailing event - hosted for the very first time by our home city Barcelona.

This year, all eyes will be on Barcelona, host city of the America’s Cup 2024, the planet’s oldest international sporting rivalry. The world will flock to this sparkling jewel on the Mediterranean to witness the planet’s greatest sailing event. While thousands will crowd the shores for a glimpse of the spectacle, more than one billion others are expected to tune in to watch the action on TV. We wanted to celebrate our cultural connection with this wonderful city and its unique Mediterranean spirit, so we invited contemporary artist JJ Walker to design a series of original, handcrafted, Limited Edition Spanish espadrilles to express our special connection with this centre of Spanish culture, this sparkling city on the sea.

His answer: Three unique, individually designed Limited Edition espadrilles that carry the colors of the Mediterranean while expressing the joy and freedom of the European lifestyle and the complex and vibrant culture of Barcelona. Each Viscata shoe has been inspired by the sights, sounds and colors of this unique city - the jewel of the Mediterranean.

JJ Walker first fell in love with Barcelona more than a decade ago after leaving home in search of adventure and inspiration. Since then, he has made this city his own, drawn by the light, love, and laughter that surrounds him. Fresh from his recent collaboration with Barcelona's legendary Studio46 (who've partnered with artists such as Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali) and his work with the iconic King's Road gallery Gagliardi we asked him to design something special for us - a Limited Edition capsule collection of stunning handmade espadrilles from one of the most unique and authentic Spanish espadrille brands. Something reflecting the vibrant Spanish culture, the soaring architectural ecstasy and the extraordinary artistic tradition of this jewel in the Mediterranean.
